Be a Smart Buyer
Investing in a swimming pool is a big deal and it will be permanently installed in your yard. So make sure you are doing it right the first time, it may be wiser to wait to make sure you get what you want and do it right. Remember that not all pools are built the same unless you are an educated consumer you might not catch it. Proposals can be tricky making it seem like you are getting more than you are in reality. Salesman play games with homeowners and will say anything to get the sale. We hold our salesmen accountable to this and involve them in construction to keep this from happening. The lowest bidder might not be giving you the best deal they may just be giving you less.
Do your research on a company's background. Check out the BBB and the State Contractor's License Board. Check with pool supply stores, friends, neighbors, and city halls. Remember you are going to be dealing with this company for the next few months make sure you pick the right one!
Below is a quote from John Ruskin (1819-1900).
"It is unwise to pay too much, but it is worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money... that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything, because what you bought was incapable of doing what it was bought to do.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot...it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder it is well to add something for the risk you run. And if you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better."
